Problem
How might we use Mood Analysis technology to help Gen Z users track and manage their emotions, while also providing personalized and actionable recommendations to improve their emotional well-being?
Research
Gen Z
The generation growing up under the influence of digital technology and social media places a higher value on emotional well-being than previous generations of young people.
Secondary Research
Anxiety disorders are highly treatable, yet only 36.9% of those suffering receive treatment.
People with an anxiety disorder are 3-5x more likely to go to the doctor and 6x more likely to be hospitalized for psychiatric disorders than those who do not suffer from anxiety disorders.
Anxiety disorders develop from a complex set of risk factors, including genetics, brain chemistry, personality, and life events.
Survey & Interview
Under the burden of life, most people feel anxious, and this emotion is almost inevitable. At the same time, it is difficult to get real relaxation when you are tired during busy times and when you are wrapped up in boredom and anxiety during rest.
122 Responses Age 18-44
5 Interviewers 3 Males and 2 Females
Comparative Research
Some of the devices and software already available for coping with feelings are shown here. On the left are devices that test feel through temperature, heart rate, sound, etc., but do not provide an effective way to help improve feel. On the right is some software that is trying to help enhance feeling by providing ways to record feelings or positive thinking training.
Design
Moodboard
My mood board, which will feature brown and Marandi home decor as the primary elements, aiming to convey a warm and cozy feeling. The mood board will include a series of warm colors and natural textures to create a natural yet comfortable atmosphere.
Application Prototype
Designed to help users monitor and manage their mood state. It detects mood states by analyzing the user's physiological indicators. When the user's mood state starts to become negative, the app sends reminders and suggestions to help them stay calm and positive. In addition, the app provides a mood journal and analysis, allowing users to track their mood states.
Feather
Mood Alerts
Helping users monitor their mood state and reminding them to act in a timely manner.
When the application detects that the user's mood state is starting to become negative, it automatically sends reminders and suggestions to help the user stay calm and positive.
Mood Analysis
Track the user's physiological indicators to identify their mood states, such as tension, anxiety, excitement, or relaxation.
Mood Analysis also provides data analysis and charts that allow users to view their mood trends and patterns.
Mission Punch
Allows users to create, edit, and complete tasks.
Users can also directly access other apps, such as reading or watching TV shows, through the Mission Punch feature.
Provides statistical data, allowing users to track their task completion progress and optimize their time management.
Hardware Prototype
The hardware prototype is used to demonstrate the feasibility of current technology, and it does not necessarily have to be in the form of gloves.

Reflection
From the outset, when I first started contemplating the idea of managing emotions through sensing devices and software for better mental well-being, I experienced moments of hesitation and occasional confusion. I questioned whether I was attempting to solve a problem I had created or genuinely uncovering an existing problem. However, after conducting several interviews, I have come to believe that the concept holds promise and practicality. Devices capable of accurately sensing emotions can serve multiple beneficial purposes. The suggestion I put forth is just one possibility for a potential future.
Simultaneously, it is of utmost importance to address the ethical and privacy implications associated with such devices. Striking a balance between the advantages of emotional insights and the need for data security and user consent becomes crucial. Ensuring the protection of user data and maintaining transparent policies regarding data usage are also pivotal in establishing trust and upholding the device's integrity. In summary, this emotion management software, along with its accompanying hardware, presents exciting opportunities for individuals to enhance their emotional well-being.
